My work is about vulnerability and deception. It is inspired by my own paranoid look at the world and how incredibly uncomfortable I am when I, reasonably, shouldn’t be. Born in the suburbs of Northern Virginia I had a picture perfect childhood; raised by divorced parents, beaten to tears by bullies and hiding inside video games and picture books. I attended James Madison University at the prescribed time for college. Then graduated with a BFA because they wouldn’t let me take as many painting classes if I didn’t at least pretend that was my goal. I moved to Brooklyn. Heard it was very cool. It was and is. I still haven’t learned to put girls in my paintings. I’m avoiding the topic of sex. Plus, they have cooties.
